Some oral proceedings at the Federal Patent Court are held in public, but some may be closed to the public. If you would like to attend a public oral hearing as a visitor, you are welcome to come even without prior notice.
We would only ask that groups of five or more contact us in good time (via our press office) to schedule a visit, so that we can ensure sufficient seating in the courtroom. The Federal Patent Court generally holds its sessions in the morning (Monday to Friday). Please note that hearings can be cancelled at short notice.
All courtroom entrances are barrier-free.
The Federal Patent Court would like to draw your attention to the following regulations on security checks, which were introduced on 1 January 2018 to meet the increased security requirements:
All persons who wish to enter the building of the Federal Patent Court (Cincinnatistraße 64, 81549 Munich) are required to present a valid photo ID. This applies to all court personnel, participants in hearings and other visitors.
The following applies to persons who are not able to provide identification:
Visitors must be picked up and have their identity confirmed by a member of the court. They will then receive a pass to enter the building (visitor’s pass).
Participants in oral proceedings are also required to have their identity confirmed (e.g. by their representative or by the opposing party). Here, too, it is mandatory to fill out a visitor’s pass.
If none of the above-mentioned methods can be used to confirm a person’s identity, the security service is instructed to refuse entry for security reasons. According to past court decisions, this is consistent with the principle of public access to hearings (section 169 of the Courts Constitution Act (GVG)).
